Fix to avoid Autologin problem

If you choose to update the system with the latest updates, ensure that Autologin works by rebooting several times, as the first reboot after upgrade works.

If your system is affected by the bug, edit the /etc/gdm3/custom.conf file and uncomment the Timed Login lines, as follows:

sudo nano /etc/gdm3/custom.conf
# Enabling timed login
TimedLoginEnable = true
TimedLogin = username
TimedLoginDelay = 10

4. Turn off updates

  1. Press the Windows key and, in the search dialogue, type: Software & Updates.

  2. In the Updates section, set the following parameters:

  • Automatically check for updates: Never

  • Notify me of a new Ubuntu version: Never

  1. Close the window, Close.

This must be done before running the Admira installer, or the installation may fail and the player might not start after reboot.

After the installation is complete, it is advisable to configure certain aspects of the operating system to ensure stable and uninterrupted playback in any scenario.

  1. Connect to the computer and go to Wired Settings (connectivity via ethernet recommended).

When the player does not run in full window, i.e. the player is not set to full screen in the inventory section of the platform. The Gnome top bar is displayed. This causes videowall settings to display the app title “Admira” and the black space of the bar.

To hide this bar, the best option is to use the Gnome Tweaks Auto Hide Top Bar extension (previously installed).

In order for Gnome Tweaks to show the extension, you must log out of the desktop session and re-enter.

After this, run gnome-tweaks and, in extensions, activate Hide Top Bar.

8. Teamviewer

  1. Download the app using the following URL https://www.teamviewer.com/es/download/linux/

  2. Save the file. You can find the version best suited to the characteristics of your computer by entering the command uname –a. This command will guide you so that you can download the most suitable version.

*deb x.XX
  1. For installation by interface, right-click above the downloaded directory and install using the package installer. Open with Software Installation

  2. Open the programme

Access Teamviewer

  1. Extras > Options > General > Enable the option to: START TEAMVIEWER WITH SYSTEM

9. Installing the Admira Player

  1. Download the app using the following URL http://install.admira.com/linux/list

  2. From this list, select version xXX-h 19.01.01, depending on the characteristics of our computer. To consult the version, use the uname -a command which will advise you which version to download.

Uninstall Admira

If you want to uninstall Admira, run:

./opt/ADmiraUninstall

Open with: Run programme

10. Automatic restart and/or shutdown of the computer

For smooth operation of the computer, it is advisable to restart it or shut it down after long periods of operation. Typically, the computer boots from BIOS at a predetermined time and shuts down or restarts once a day. If the computer’s BIOS supports it, it is also recommended to configure the computer to return to the state it was in after a power failure.

There are various options for restarting or shutting down the computer. We will use the crontab for advanced users.

Crontab

  1. Open the terminal, logging in with root and launching the following command:

sudo su -
sudo gedit /etc/crontab
  1. Add this line for daily restart at 23:00.

01 23 * * * root    shutdown -r now
  1. Save the change.

  2. On the terminal, run:

sudo service cron restart

11. Fix remote access via Teamviewer without music thread (optional for music players)

The music players do not have the HDMI cable connected to them. This causes Teamviewer 14 to show a black screen when you connect. Two options have been found to fix this, but the option below gives the best results.

wget -qO - https://bitbucket.org/marcos-martinez/scripts/raw/master/twfix.sh | sudo -E bash

Once the change has been applied and the computer restarted, you will no longer see the image on the HDMI monitor and will only be able to interact with the computer via remote platform access or Teamviewer.

To undo the change, simply delete a file via Teamviewer or SSH. The file to be deleted is:

/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/virtual-monitor.conf

For automatic login to the desktop to work, it is also necessary to remove the dummy driver installed by the script.

sudo apt-get remove --purge xserver-xorg-video-dummy-hwe-18.04

After deleting this file and restarting, you should see the image on the monitor again if you plug it into HDMI.

12. Final checks

  1. Remote access to the computer via TW

  2. Remote access to the computer via platform

  3. Check playback of content

  4. Troubleshooting

Music Players

One of the most common problems is that HDMI is checked in Output, and you do not want to use it. Selecting the sound card will solve this problem. There may be other problems, and it may not be possible to do this using this graphics menu.

  1. Open the terminal and run alsamixer.

  2. After this, the handling of the Alsa controller that emits the sound will appear.

  3. By pressing F6, you can change the default graphics card. This can solve quite a few sound problems although there are some that it will not solve.

  4. If, after doing all the above, it is still not working, the only option is to restart or reinstall Alsa and PulseAudio. To do this, run the following commands on the terminal:

sudo alsa force-reload
  1. This will restart the service, and Alsa and PulseAudio can be reinstalled by running the following commands:

sudo apt-get remove --purge alsa-base pulseaudio
sudo apt-get install alsa-base pulseaudio

Password recovery

If you have lost your user’s password or been assigned an incorrect password, you can recover it by doing the following:

  1. Switch on the computer, press shift or esc.

  2. Go to the recovery mode console.

Here you can apply the same procedure as above to change the password, but you must first mount the root partition with:

mount -rw -o remount /

Then proceed to change your password:

passwd nombredeusuario

Disable/enable firewall

In the event of firewall issues, you can disable or enable it using the console.

  1. Open the console.

  2. To disable the firewall:

sudo ufw disable
  1. To enable it:

sudo ufw enable

In both cases, the user password is required.
